Labor Day Staycation Idea: Escape with a Good Book

Summer Read by Michael Steirnagle
Summer picnics, lazy walks and beach parties are great fun. But as the days grow shorter and we approach the last “official weekend” of summer, these fleeting days of leisure are not only a great time to dip into the pool, but a great time to dip into a really good book. Here are some suggestions to afford you a true “getaway” for the long Labor Day weekend, whether or not you are able to escape for one last weekend at the coast or resort. There is a lot to be said, after all,  for enjoying that novel or story of your choice in the comfort of your own home.

  1. I'm longing for a long, lazy weekend. :-) Spring just arrived here in Australia so I'm snatching mini-vacations each morning, delving into gardening and country books from Italy and France to inspire me. :-) I'm so intrigued by Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I can't wait to start. :-)

  2. Nancy,

That kind of staycation is a lovely thought. With the frenetic pace of our world, just lingering long over a book (or even over a treasured magazine or two, preferably Vintage Victoria), with no electronics within sight or earshot, would be such a welcome respite. Hope you are having a wonderful autumn. How I would love to see a new Nancy Lindemeyer-edited Victoria full of Toshi Otsuki photos in my mailbox! At least I still have my old ones to keep me company.

    Blessings,
    Christi
